Patricia Riggen was born in Mexico. She began her film career as a writer for television documentaries and as an executive director for the Mexican Film Institute.
She studied a master’s degree in Directing at Columbia University. Her first short film, La Milpa, received 20 international awards; among them the Student Academy Award. Her documentary film, Family Portrait, won the Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival ‘05.
Patricia directed and produced her first full-length feature, Under the Same Moon, which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and was quickly acquired for worldwide distribution by Fox Searchlight and The Weinstein Company. It opened to weekend record numbers for a Spanish language film.
Patricia then directed the Lionsgate/Pantelion’s Girl in Progress, a coming-of-age comedy and the musical Lemonade Mouth for the Disney Channel, which received a DGA nomination and garnered 12.5 million viewers in its first two airings.
In 2015 Patricia released the Chilean mining drama The 33, with leading stars Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche.
Patricia’s latest movie is the box office hit Miracles from Heaven, starring Jennifer Garner.
