As Director of Digital Video for FRONTLINE, Carla Borrás oversees the series development and production of documentary shorts, social video journalism and new forms such as virtual reality and interactive web-based documentaries. A passionate storyteller, documentary fanatic, and believer in the power of investigative journalism, Carla seeks to bring FRONTLINE’s signature in-depth journalism to audiences through new formats and platforms. She was instrumental in establishing a digital video unit inside the legacy series and lead its pioneering work in virtual reality and interactive documentary storytelling. Under Carla’s leadership, FRONTLINE’s innovative digital video journalism has earned multiple honors, including an Emmy for New Approaches: Documentary, two Online Journalism Awards, a World Press Photo Award, a Scripps Howard Award, the SXSW Virtual Cinema Grand Jury prize, as well as the 2017 & 2018 People’s Voice Webby for best social news content. Additionally, an interactive overseen by Carla was one of the works cited in FRONTLINE’s recent duPont-Columbia Gold Baton win. In 2019, Carla was selected for the Online News Association Women’s Leadership Accelerator and is currently a fellow in the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Editorial Integrity & Leadership program run by Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication. Prior to jumping at the chance to join FRONTLINE, she worked on features and nonfiction programming for the Discovery Channel, Sony Pictures and truTV. She graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in psychology.
