Behind The Programming
Ethan has worked in media arts programming since 1989, curating Latino film festivals for Cine Acción, San Francisco, Cine Estudiantil at University of California Santa Cruz and San Diego, and the National Latino Communications Center, Los Angeles; plus, 100s of programs across the U.S. and Mexico.
In 1995, Ethan transformed Cine Estudiantil into the San Diego Latino Film Festival (now celebrating 25 years); and in 1999, established Media Arts Center San Diego, a 501c(3) non-profit. In addition to SDLFF, his impactful programs include: California’s Digital Story Station in 45 libraries, Teen Producers Project, Youth Media & Tech Camps, Mobile Stories, Speak City Heights, People’s Post, Frontera Filmmakers, and Digital Gym Cinema.
Ethan has served on funding panels: San Diego Commission for Arts & Culture, Latino Public Broadcasting, Rockefeller Foundation’s Film/ Video Fellowships, California Arts Council, L.A. County Arts Commission, National Association of Latino Arts & Culture, & National Endowment for the Arts.
